The Transit Authority of Warren County will have a new
look next month.
On June 1, a fleet of five new buses will be unveiled,
TAWC director John Aldrich said.
The five new "12-year" buses will replace the
six "8-year" buses that TAWC has had for about
nine years.
The buses, purchased with state and federal funding, are
part of a new and improved TAWC, according to Aldrich, who
said other changes are in the works.
TAWC will also be changing its fixed routes when the new
buses begin to run.
By changing the routes, Aldrich said TAWC will "reduce
duplication in geographic routes." He added that routes
that overlapped will be combined, including the East-to-West
and Youngsville-to-Sheffield route.
The change, Aldrich said, means that instead of two buses
running, there will be one that will come every hour, instead
of every two hours on one of the busier routes.
"We are changing the fixed route to make better service,"
Aldrich said.
Also, the North-to-South route has been extended from the
Warren Mall to the Veterans Administration clinic and the
Northwest Savings Bank data center at the Farm Colony.
"By improving the service, we hope ridership will
improve," Aldrich said.
A dedication ceremony for the new buses will be held at
the TAWC building at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aldrich said. The
new bus schedules are available on TAWC's web site.
